Abandoned Building in Marianna, Florida
I met some scuba divers recently at Wakulla Springs that told me about an abandoned building in Marianna, Florida. It sounded pretty interesting and was pretty much within the route I had already selected, so I made it a point to find it. According to the young boy at the concession stand on the adjacent Blue Springs Park property, the building is off-limits and is on county owned property. However, he gave me directions to it and it is accessible via a nicely maintained trail directly from the park. Park entrance is only $2.00 and it is a beautiful facility, so this is the obvious place to park.
Unfortunately, I have not found much information online as to what exactly this building was used for. I cannot find any confirmation that it was in fact an officer’s club. The main building has two fireplaces and a lot of open floor space. Behind the main building there are ruins of what may have been a storage building or even possibly a bath-house. I would be very grateful for any further information via my feedback form. The only piece of information I did find declared briefly “On top of the bluff and about 150 feet from the edge is an abandoned house that was once used by the USO to entertain troops.” This was on Tallahassee Freenet.
The main interior shot was processed in HDR (High Dynamic Range) using Photomatix Essentials 4.0.1. This particular one is a composite of three images, one properly exposed for the interior, a second underexposed and a final one overexposed. This process allows the adjacent woods which border Merritt’s Mill Pond to show up equally as well as the interior.
