I recently volunteered to be a model at Scandinavian Makeup Academy for the drag queen makeup exam. This was my first time to ever do drag. It is interesting because I was a bit nervous about it, though I have worked as a bodypaint model around the world. This was certainly difference. Andrea Haugene is a Norwegian makeup artist and has been living in Bangkok for 3 months now while attending SMA. As you can see, her work is excellent. This class was directed by Thai drag queen/female impersonator Pan Pan Narkprasert and photos by Timo Kozlowski.
Drag Queen Makeup
Each student was allotted 2 hours to complete the practical exam. Andrea worked alone while most other students worked in teams of two.
Volunteers at SMA Bangkok generally work in exchange for photographs when students are performing practical exams. Occasionally a modest fee is paid if a volunteer is used for practice purposes only. After the makeup is complete the model and artist work together to find the perfect outfit. Andrea’s theme “Mother Earth is Hungry” along with my large size limited our choices, but I believe it worked out just great!
